THE LIAR
by
This is a wonderful novel about official corruption,
malfeasance of office and the deliberate wrongful conviction of a suspect. Government power acquiesced to bureaucrats
is almost limitless and the most powerful of all is the district attorney. When government power is used for evil it can
be devastating and almost impossible to reverse. This novel chronicles the roller-coaster ride
of a man determined to free his falsely imprisoned brother and to set the
record straight. "Great entertainment!"

CHAPTER ONE
August 24th.
Shanna Rich remembers that day well.
Her father the District Attorney was having a party to get support for
his re-election campaign.
Then the trouble started.
Three men with guns entered the
room; they had on waiter outfits.
"Listen to this." one man said. "I don't want to hurt anyone, what I
want is justice for an innocent man." A six foot three man said.
"Parties over. Everyone except those who live in the house
should leave, and I know who you are."
The people started to leave.
"Do something good with the
money and help the homeless," he said.
"You can't do this! "
Arthur stated.
"Let me guess, you’re deeply
hurt. So is the man on death row who is
innocent." The man with the gun replied.
One man locked the door.
One man picked up the phone and
dialed.
"Yes lieutenant in the
D.A.'s house you’d better come alone and unarmed and no one will get
hurt." The blond man hung up.
A woman came in with a tray of
glasses.
"Champagne how nice."
The big guy took a glass.
"Give some to my
friends." He told her
The woman did. The man took the tray.
"Sit down and enjoy the
party." He said. The woman did.
"Just who are you and what
do you want?" Arthur Rich asked.
"Certainly you know who I am
D.A. just think of the last innocent man you put on death row, my name
is…"
He was distracted by one of his
friend's yelling.
"Lady I told you to
stop."
Arthur stood up when a man held
his gun up.
“She can't hear very well don't
shoot." Arthur explained.
The big man went to get her.
On the stair's he touched her
arm.
She turned around and panicked on
seeing the gun.
"Can she read lip's?"
The big man asked.
"Yes I can stupid and what
are you doing here?" She asked angrily.
"Come join the party maybe
you can talk some sense into that man." He pointed at Arthur.
"Daddy didn't do anything
wrong." She stated.
"What's your name?" The
man asked.
"None of your
business." She replied.
He took her arm. "Daddy insists," he said and
escorted her downstairs.
The man took the brunette to the
couch. He gave her an envelope.
"You read this and tell me
honestly if the right man was convicted.”
"Do this and we'll leave
your family alone.” He told her.
Arthur touched her arm. "Shanna don't do this its just another
attempt."
"Then let Shanna read
D.A.!" The man cut in angrily.
"Mark DeSando." The man sat next to her. "The man was convicted on the unlawful
evidence in your hand's. I'm a mystery writer and I can tell you this is an
outright lie."
"You’re Eric DeSando."
Shanna said.
"You’re father knew that or
he's too arrogant to care." Eric said.
"That's Judd Edson and
Stephan Hall, and you are?" Eric asked the woman with the tray.
"Gertrude Miller."
"Eric he's here." Judd
replied.
"Check for cop's and make
sure they’re unarmed." Eric said.
Eric stood up and moved behind
Arthur. Two men were led in.
The living room was big with blue
and white marble like walls, black carpeting, gray chandeliers, two big
couches, several smaller chairs and a big chandelier in the middle of the
room. A big gold plated staircase was off
to the side.
"This is Juan Armondo the
assistant convicter, and you know Lieutenant Rik Marcus." Stephan replied.
"Please come in gentlemen
and have a seat; now a real party will begin." Eric replied.
"What's going on?" Juan
asked going to Shanna.
"This is Eric DeSando."
"Mark DeSando's
brother." Juan replied.
"Now everyone is interested
in listening except at trial.” Eric said.
"Shanna has the real proof
my brother is innocent. Juan you can
destroy evidence like before but I have copies.” Eric finished.
"Like hell he did!"
"If you and Arthur weren't
so concerned about your re-election my brother would free." Eric stated.
"The only thing you'll get
is a long jail sentence." Rik replied.
"I'm not worried, but you
better be and no one is leaving until I get the truth." Eric stated.
Eric came and moved Shanna to
another chair.
"I want you to read this
because I can prove not all the evidence was let in." Eric replied.
"Leave Shanna alone!"
Juan demanded.
"Sit down boy, all I want is
for Shanna to read this unless you’re scared." Eric said.
"If Shanna find's out you
lied then her view's of you might change." Eric told Juan.
Shanna looked at her father. Eric
took her hand.
Juan stood up.
Eric held the gun up.
"Please my brother is going to be executed just so daddy
could win, why should an innocent man die for that?" Eric asked.
"Are your family view's
going to block the fact Mark might be guilty?" Shanna asked.
"What about yours?"
Eric asked. ,
"This isn't what Shanna
need's, she had the flu and is recovering." Juan replied.
"Why are you so against
this, if you didn't do any thing wrong?
Shanna reading this won't hurt." Eric replied
"Gertrude will you make
something for Shanna to eat and drink and bring it to her room? Unlike you two I'm a gentleman," Eric
said and led Shanna upstairs.
The upstairs hall had blue
carpeting with several doors along the hall.
"Where's your room?"
Eric asked.
Shanna pointed and led the way.
In the room Eric put the envelope
on the bed.
"I'm not going to hurt you
or anyone downstairs if I can get one person to listen." Eric stopped.
"I tried every way I know
how to get anyone to listen and all I got was pushed aside." "If this was your brother and no one
would listen what would you do?" Erie asked.
"Not break the law."
Shanna replied.
Eric moved to put one leg on the
bed to sit.
"Granted this was stupid but
I have to save my brothers life. If it was possible that dead woman would say
Mark didn't do it," Eric said.
"I'll read this but I don't
know how much I can help," Shanna replied.
"Just read the evidence and
if you can't find one fault I'll leave and hopefully find another way to help
Mark," Eric said then left.
Eric came down the circular
staircase.
"What have you done with
Shanna?" Juan demanded.
"I was only upstairs five
minutes, we made out what do you think we did?" Eric asked grumpily.
"Shanna is safe in her room
reading the truth about you two." "I realize it was election time and
why lose the expensive champagne and china." Eric threw some plates on the
floor. "How many other innocent
people have you sent up to keep this over priced house?" Eric asked.
"Mr. DeSando if you'd just
listen to the facts you'd see."
"What fact's Arthur, your
manufactured one's, the real one's the judge and jury never got a chance to
hear?" Eric asked.
"Maybe I'll get lucky and a
judge or governor will order an investigation and find out what other things
you’re hiding." Eric finished.
"No one is going to believe
a brother of a convict.”
"And you’re an expert
Juany." Eric cut in.
Juan stood up.
"Where are you going?"
Eric asked after Juan took a step,
"To check on Shanna."
"She's fine and reading;
leave her alone," Eric ordered as Gertrude went upstairs.
The phone started to ring.
Eric pointed to Arthur to answer
it.
"Hello?"
"Yes governor we're fine but
Eric DeSando has got my daughter upstairs."
"Shanna is alone and
fine." Eric yelled.
"Yes he's the brother of
that killer Mark DeSando."
Eric took the phone from
Arthur. "My brother is innocent
‘Gov’ and I intend to prove it!" Eric said angrily.
"I already promised Shanna
no one will get hurt so no tear gas or storm trooper's. I have two other men with me and I'll be in
touch." Eric hung up.
Eric sat next to Arthur. "How much is it going to cost you just
to tell the truth for once?" Eric asked.
"There’s no way, you can't
say I didn't do my job right. "Arthur replied.
"I'm Mother Theresa, tell me
is Juan the queen of England?" Eric asked insultingly.
"I'm getting sick of your
attitude."
"Join the club D.A."
Eric said then looked up.
“How much is that chandelier and
will you cry when I shoot it down?" Eric asked pointing the gun.
"You can't do that it's
right over Shanna's room." Arthur stated.
"I know but I'm not a
killer, go check the house and make sure any spot's to escape are covered I’ll
keep them company." Eric replied.
"We have to talk sleeping arrangements.
"You’re not staying any
where near Shanna!" Juan told Eric angrily.
"My main objective is to
free Mark and Shanna will realize soon you’re not a real man." Eric
replied.
Shanna didn't know all the legal
ways but she found mistakes right away.
She put the papers down.
It couldn't be true. Daddy wouldn't let a mistake like this
happen.
Eric knocked on the door until he
remembered. He went in.
Shanna was looking at the papers
with a blank look. "Did you find anything yet?"
"Don't you knock?" she
asked.
"I did, what were you
thinking about?" Eric asked.
Shanna looked away.
Eric sat on the bed.
"You found something and I
may be right."
"Did you come up here to bug
me?" Shanna asked.
"I wanted to talk to you
about the sleeping arrangement’s."
Shanna got off the bed.
"Can you still hear
me?" Eric asked.
"Yes." She turned
around.
"I'm going to go downstairs’
to watch the men your boy is worried." He said.
"Juan is not."
"You didn't answer my
question, did you find anything? I'm not leaving until you give me an
answer."
Shanna went to get a piece of
paper.
"Read this."
Shanna gave him the paper.
Eric read it.
"Your father and fiancé let
this in?" "A knife the wrong size with no blood stain's or fingerprint's."
Eric stated. "I may not be a genius
but I know blood can not be cleaned off that easily, plus my brother is right
handed not left as the coroner said."
"Maybe they
just made a mistake. You know how busy
they are, doing hundred's of autopsy's." Shanna said.
